Rotate and treat stains immediately
Rotate your rug regularly to distribute wear evenly and reduce the effects of foot traffic and sunlight. It's a simple way to keep your rug looking great and helps with cleaning large rugs.
Don’t let stains sit! Prompt action prevents them from becoming permanent. Check our stain treatment guide for effective solutions.
Vacuum
Frequent vacuuming is the most essential step in rug maintenance. For high-traffic areas, vacuum twice a week with slow, thorough passes. Change the dust bag when it's half full to maintain optimal suction.
Use a suction-only canister vacuum to avoid pilling and fuzzing. If unavailable, adjust your vacuum to keep the brush away from the rug's surface.
Vacuum types
For cut pile wool: Dual motor vacuums with brush rolls work well. For loop pile wool: A suction-only vacuum or canister vacuum is ideal. Consider a vacuum certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval for superior cleaning. Learn more at www.carpet-rug.org.
Professionally clean
Occasionally, your rug may need a deep clean. Professional cleaning can restore its original beauty. Avoid silicone-based stain repellents, as they can cause faster soiling.
Change filters
Regularly change the filters in your heating and air conditioning systems to prevent dust buildup around your home.
Curling edges
If your rug edges keep curling up, buy a rug edge double sided tape and apply between the rug and the floor.
Use a lint roller
Use a lint roller to pick up crumbs, hairs, or small particles quickly.
"A suction-only canister vacuum is best to prevent excess pilling, fuzzing and pulls. However, if this type is not available, set the vacuum so that the brush is furthest away from the surface of the carpet."

Stain treatment
Accidents happen, but handling stains doesn't have to be stressful. Follow these easy steps to keep your rug looking its best:
1. Scoop Up Solids
Use a spoon to gently scrape any solids, working from the outside of the spot toward the center.
2. Blot, Don't Rub
Quickly blot spills with white paper towels or a clean, absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing— it pushes the liquid deeper into the fibers, making stains harder to remove.
3. Handle Liquid Spills Carefully
Liquids can attract dirt particles, creating dark stains. Blot immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel to lift the spill and dirt.
4. Apply Cleaning Solution
Test your cleaner for colorfastness on a hidden area of the rug first. Then, apply the solution to a clean towel and gently blot the stain, flipping the towel to avoid reapplying dirt.
5. Work from the Edges
Clean from the outer edges of the stain toward the center to prevent spreading. Avoid over-saturating the rug with water.
6. Allow the Cleaner to Work
Let the cleaning agent sit for a few minutes, then repeat as needed until the stain is gone.
7. Rinse and Dry
Use a clean cloth dampened with clear water to rinse the area. Blot excess moisture by applying pressure with paper towels or a sponge.
